Using natural materials like wool for a newborn is generally a good idea, especially when it comes to natural newborn baby essentials. Wool is a soft and comfortable material that is gentle on a baby’s skin, making it a great choice for clothing, blankets, and other items.

All experiences and opinions are my own. I do not seek to give any medical advice. Consult your midwife or doctor if you have medical questions. Use common sense with strangulation and choking hazards. It can be dangerous if not used properly!

Natural newborn baby essentials: where to start?

Going with all natural newborn baby essentials is a great way to keep things simple and affordable. One item that is particularly useful for a newborn baby is a woolen sleeping bag. This provides a warm and cozy environment for the baby to sleep in, and the natural breathability of the wool ensures that the baby does not overheat. Woolen sleeping bags come in newborn size and can be a great investment for new parents.

Cloth diapers made of natural materials like wool can also be a good choice for newborns. These diapers are gentle on a baby’s skin and are more environmentally friendly than disposable diapers. New parents may want to consider using cloth diapers in the first month of their baby’s life, as this can help them save money and reduce waste.

Another natural material item that is useful for newborns is burp cloths made of wool or other soft fabrics. These can be used to clean up any spills or messes that occur during feeding or burping, and are gentle on a baby’s sensitive skin.

Overall, using natural materials like wool for a newborn is a great idea. These materials are gentle on a baby’s skin, comfortable to wear, and environmentally friendly. Bonnet

Using a wool or wool/silk baby bonnet is a great way to help keep a newborn baby warm and comfortable during their first month. It is also a good idea to include a wool or wool/silk baby bonnet as part of a newborn baby’s essentials, as it can help regulate their body temperature.

Newborns are very vulnerable to changes in temperature and can easily become too cold or too hot. A wool or wool/silk baby bonnet can help to regulate their body temperature and keep their head warm, which is important as they can lose a significant amount of body heat through their head. That costs a lot of energy for the baby that it could otherwise use to grow!

In addition to being a practical item for newborns, a wool or wool/silk baby bonnet can also be a great option for a baby shower gift. They are available in a range of colors and designs and come in newborn sizes, making them thoughtful and useful presents for new parents. There are some well-known brands like Disana, Cosilana, and Engel that sell high-quality wool and wool/ silk blend bonnets and hats for newborns and older babies.

Overall, using a wool or wool/silk baby bonnet is a great way to help keep a newborn baby comfortable and regulate their body temperature. It is a good idea to include a baby bonnet in the list of essential items for a new baby, and they also make great gifts for baby showers.

Onesies

Since the onesie is one of the items that are closest to a baby’s skin it’s wise to choose a onesie made from natural materials that are soft and warm for the baby. Using a wool onesie for a newborn is a great choice for several reasons.

First, newborn babies have very delicate and soft skin that is easily irritated. Wool is a natural, breathable fiber that is gentle on a baby’s skin and less likely to cause any irritation or discomfort. Organic baby clothes are also a great option as they are free from harmful chemicals and toxins that may be present in conventional clothing materials.

Wool is also a great insulator, which means it can keep your baby warm in colder months while still allowing their skin to breathe. This makes it a better option than synthetic fabrics that may trap heat and cause your baby to overheat. But wool onesies are great for warm summer days as well! Exactly because of those insulating properties. Wool is warm in winter and keeps cool in summer.

Additionally, wool has natural moisture-wicking properties that can help keep your baby dry and comfortable. Also, you don’t have to wash wool onesies as much, because naturally occurring lanolin has that great moisture-wicking and self-cleaning properties. A spritz with your DIY lanolin spray every now and then will do.

A wool onesie for a newborn also makes a perfect gift, as it is not only practical but also cozy and cute. Bonus points if you pair it with other organic baby clothes or bath products that are gentle on newborn skin.

Overall, using a wool onesie for a newborn is a great way to ensure that your baby is comfortable and protected in the early days of their life. It can also be a good investment as a baby home essential that can be used for several months.

Socks

Wool socks are a great choice for newborn babies because they are made from natural materials that are gentle on a baby’s delicate skin. Unlike synthetic materials, wool is breathable, and warm for your baby’s little toes.

Additionally, wool is naturally insulating, which helps regulate a baby’s body temperature and keeps their little toes warm and cozy. This is especially important for newborn babies, who have a harder time regulating their body temperature than adults.

Using wool socks as part of your baby gear is a great way to ensure that your baby’s skin is protected, warm, and comfortable. Nature baby products like organic baby clothes made from natural materials are always the best way to care for newborn skin. As a soft and gentle material, wool socks are a perfect gift for newborn babies.

In summary, wool socks are an excellent choice for newborns due to them being made of natural materials, their softness, and their ability to regulate body temperature. Investing in organic baby clothes made from natural materials is well worth it. And you can never have enough socks, right? Sadly, we have a whole bag of single socks that lost their companion. So it won’t harm to put a few extra on your non-toxic baby registry checklist.

Cloth diapers

There are several reasons why new parents should consider using cloth diapers, especially those made of wool:

Better for baby’s skin: Wool is a natural and breathable material, which means that it allows air to circulate around the baby’s skin, reducing the risk of diaper rash and other skin irritations.

Reduced risk of diaper rash: Cloth diapers made of wool are more absorbent than disposable diapers, which can help to prevent diaper rash. Wool is also naturally antimicrobial, which means it can help to prevent the growth of bacteria that can cause diaper rash.

Night-time use: Wool cloth diapers are particularly useful for nighttime use, as they can absorb more moisture and keep the baby dry for longer periods of time.

Environmental impact: Disposable diapers are a significant contributor to landfill waste and take hundreds of years to decompose. Cloth diapers made of sustainable materials like wool are a more eco-friendly option.

Sustainable materials: Wool is a renewable and sustainable material that can be produced without harmful chemicals or pesticides, making it a more environmentally-friendly option than synthetic materials.

Reduced need for diaper rash cream: Because wool cloth diapers are more absorbent than disposable diapers, they can help to reduce the need for diaper cream, which can be expensive and contain toxic chemicals.

Affordable price: While the upfront cost of cloth diapers may be higher than disposable diapers, they can be reused for multiple children and are more cost-effective in the long run. Additionally, using cloth diapers can help to reduce the overall cost of baby care.

A more sustainable and affordable option

Overall, using wool cloth diapers can be a great choice for new parents who are looking for a more sustainable and affordable option that is also better for their baby’s skin. The best diaper if you ask me. Though I do think that using disposable diapers every now and then is totally fine.

If you decide to use (wool) cloth diapers, washable baby wipes are a logical choice. Using washable baby wipes reduces the amount of waste and since you’ll be washing anyway, you might as well throw those in the diaper pail as well, which makes for easy diaper changes. Clothing

Choosing clothes made of natural materials like wool, linen, and organic cotton for newborns is a great choice for several reasons. Firstly, these materials are soft, breathable, and gentle on a baby’s delicate skin, which can help to prevent skin irritations and rashes. Additionally, natural materials are often more durable and long-lasting, which means that they can withstand frequent washing and wear.

When it comes to washing baby clothes, it’s important to use a gentle and safe baby laundry detergent to avoid any harsh chemicals that could irritate a baby’s skin. There are many best baby products on the market that are designed specifically for this purpose, so it’s worth investing in a high-quality product that will keep your baby’s clothes clean and safe. Preferably use a laundry detergent that’s scented using essential oils only. Or make your own laundry detergent! No one likes to be stuck in a highly perfumed outfit for a long time. Especially sensitive newborn babies don’t.

Organic baby products are also a great choice for newborns, as they are made from natural materials that have been grown without the use of harmful chemicals or pesticides. This can help to reduce the risk of exposure to potentially harmful toxins, which is especially important for sensitive babies.

Choosing natural materials for baby clothes is also a great way to ensure that the entire family is comfortable and happy. Family members who come into contact with the baby, such as parents, grandparents, and siblings, will appreciate the soft and comfortable feel of natural materials. This makes them a perfect match for new moms who want to create a safe and comfortable environment for their little ones and those around them.

In summary, choosing clothes made of natural materials like wool, linen, and organic cotton for newborns is a smart and practical choice. It is not only a comfortable environment for the baby but looks pretty as well. Since natural materials naturally tend to match well because of their structure and shade of color. When paired with the best baby products like safe laundry detergent, natural materials make a great choice for any new mom looking to provide the best possible care for her baby.

Cotton muslin swaddles

Cotton muslin swaddles and burp cloths are used extensively for newborns because they offer several benefits. You can’t have enough of those if you ask me:) For starters, cotton muslin is a breathable and lightweight fabric that helps regulate a newborn’s body temperature, which is critical for their comfort and health. Swaddling with muslin blankets also provides a sense of security and can mimic the feeling of being in the womb, which can help calm fussy babies.

Muslin cloths can be used for burp cloths. And are used to protect clothing from spit-up and other messes that can occur during feeding time. They are particularly useful when a baby can sit in his high chair and starts solid foods, as these can lead to more messes. The good news is that muslin cloths are easy to clean and can be washed and reused many times, making them a practical and cost-effective choice for new parents.

Multi-purpose

Muslin swaddles and burp cloths can also be used for a variety of other purposes, such as providing shade over a baby’s stroller, creating a makeshift changing pad, or even as a nursing cover. The larger sizes of muslin cloths make them versatile and suitable for a variety of uses.

Also, muslin cloths can be placed on top of the crib mattress if your baby tends to spit up a lot after drinking. When the child gets older and starts potty training, muslin cloths can be placed over a waterproof mattress pad. That’s usually more comfortable. So these swaddles can be used for a loooong time!

Soft towels are useful for bath time, while breast milk and a breast pump are essential for breastfeeding mothers. A diaper bag is also necessary for outings, as it allows parents to carry all the essentials they need for their baby while on the go.

Blanket

A blanket is very versatile and can be used in a baby’s bed or as a shade cover in the stroller. When you expect colder weather a wool blanket is a good choice. Since it will keep your baby comfy and warm. On hot summer days, a soft linen or cotton blanket can be a good choice as well.

This will most likely be one of those items you will use a lot, so invest in a quality blanket that you love.

Sheepskin rug

This one should actually be on top of this list. A short-haired, medicinal sheepskin rug is fantastic for a baby to sleep on. Make sure that the way the sheepskin rug is processed is safe for the baby to sleep on. A medicinal-grade sheepskin is suitable for a baby since they are specially tanned.

I’ve found that the child is much calmer because the sheepskin rug is soft and warmth-regulating. Especially for breastfeeding at night. You can put the baby next to you and feed it on your side while the baby is still on its little sheepskin. It won’t be as much of a temperature shock going from a warm bed and after feeding back into a cold bed for the baby if he can stay on its own warm sheepskin.

Always use caution and only use a short-haired, medicinal sheepskin. You could place a muslin blanket over the sheepskin if you prefer.

Sleeping bag

A sleeping bag is a must-have essential for a newborn baby. It is a natural and safe way to keep your little one warm and cozy while they sleep. Adding a sleeping bag to your baby’s checklist is a great decision because it helps you ensure that your baby is comfortable throughout the night.

Sleeping bags made with natural materials such as wool with a soft organic cotton cover are perfect for your baby’s skin. Organic cotton is a natural fiber that is gentle on a baby’s delicate skin and does not contain any harmful chemicals. It is breathable, hypoallergenic, and ideal for sensitive skin. Wool is warmth regulating which makes it a great material to keep baby warm.

A two-way zipper can be another great feature of a baby sleeping bag. It allows for easy diaper changes without disturbing your baby’s sleep.

Soft blankets can be a good item to combine with the sleeping bag since you can tuck your newborn baby in which gives him a secure feeling. They can provide extra warmth and comfort, and can also be used for swaddling. Choose blankets made with natural materials to avoid any potential irritants or allergens that may cause discomfort.

Baby carrier

A baby carrier is a must-have essential for any new parent’s daily routine. It is a natural way to keep your newborn close to you while you go about your day. Adding a baby carrier to your checklist of products for your little one is a smart move because it can make your life much easier. There are many types of baby carriers available on the market, but choosing the right one can be overwhelming.

When looking for a baby carrier, it’s important to find one that is comfortable for both you and your baby. You’ll want to consider factors such as the size and weight of your baby, the length of time you plan to wear the carrier, and your personal preferences. Some popular types of baby carriers include wrap carriers, ring slings, and structured carriers.

Whichever type of baby carrier you choose, make sure to check that it meets all necessary safety standards. It’s also a good idea to read reviews from other parents to see how they liked the product. With the right baby carrier, you can enjoy the benefits of keeping your baby close while also having the freedom to move around and take care of your daily tasks.

I would advise you to buy a stretchy knit wrap baby carrier for the first months and then switch to a carrier like a Manduca baby carrier.

Non-essentials

Lastly, there are those items you find in baby stores and online on “must-have baby registry” lists that are labeled absolutely essential. Well, after four, soon to be five, babies I’ve found that a lot is not essential. Really all a baby needs is sleep, warmth, milk, and love.

Things like an expensive convertible car seat, baby monitors, white noise machines, and so on are really not necessary. They will cost you a lot of money and you’ll most likely find out they weren’t as useful as you thought they would be.

Certainly, you need a proper infant car seat to take your baby along! But, it doesn’t have to be the most expensive. Neither will the other things mentioned make your life much easier. As a mom, you know what’s best for your baby and what he needs and you may trust and be confident in how you feel about that!

Keep it simple

My advice would be to keep it simple. Soft towels or extra muslin swaddles are useful for bath time, while breast pads and a breast pump are essentials for breastfeeding mothers.

When it comes to baby gear for the nursing mom, a rocking chair or another comfortable chair can be a great addition to a nursery as it provides a soothing motion that can help calm a fussy baby and give mom a supportive comfortable place to nurse. A diaper bag can be a practical backpack and I consider it a necessary item for outings, as it allows parents to carry all the essentials they need for their baby while on the go.

But, keep it simple, and if you really need something you can always buy it when the baby is born. Stick to the basics and foremost provide lots of love.

Save for later…
