Refreshing Your Home Decor

I love to bring fresh flowers into the home, especially during the early spring days. Brightly colored tulips and fragrant Hyacinths brighten up the home.

To make a bouquet more cost-efficient, you could add some greenery from your garden to make it fuller. You could add some eucalyptus or even a few sleek, bare branches from the garden and arrange them into a bouquet with a few store-bought flowers.

Swap throws, artwork & pillows for brightly colored ones. Also, swap heavier wool blankets and throws for lighter cotton, muslin, or linen fabrics.

Your kitchen will look brighter with a few fresh, colorful tea towels.

You don’t need to go all out—just a few pops of color and some light, natural materials can bring that fresh spring feel into your home.

Spring Cleaning and Decluttering

Of course, spring calls for spring cleaning. I love to sweep through the house, organize, declutter, and give some areas a “deep clean”.

For my cleaning supplies, I try to stick with natural cleaners. A few drops of essential oils in a water/ vinegar mixture make a great, refreshing cleaner.

You can read more about my favorite natural cleaning supplies and why they work so well in this blog post.

I’ll give you three spring decluttering tips for a refreshing home. I don’t try to do everything; I just do some freshening up here and there that will help organize the home for a nice winter-to-spring transition.

1. Instead of tackling a whole room or area at once, you could focus on a “category”, such as books, magazines, clothes, toys, etc.

2. Create a basket for things that are out of place. When you clean a room, put all “out-of-place” items in the basket and put them where they belong when you finish the room. This helps in not having to run to and fro to put everything back where it belongs. (This is great with little ones too. Put the basket on the table and give each child a task. One does all the toy cars, another book, another one clothes, etc.)

3. Focus on small, high-use areas. Think of the kitchen counter, bathroom sinks, the “hot spot” where you drop your keys & phone, etc. This is less overwhelming than tackling a large area at once.

Seasonal Transitions

As winter ends, homemaking routines change, requiring some adjustments in practical homemaking. However, a few extras can make the changes feel more subtle.

On the first sunny day, I like to let in some fresh air, even if it’s cold. I open the curtains and let the sunlight flood the living room. The chilly breeze freshens the whole room and even my mood on some days!

As for the practical side of homemaking during spring… As the days get longer, I like to get up earlier and start my laundry earlier during the day so it has enough time during the day to dry outside.

Another practical ‘Homemaking to-do” for spring is storing winter gear. Mittens, scarves, and wool coats get stored for the next winter season. Also, I like to get out and check our garden tools and see if we need any replaced.

Take a look around your home and determine a few simple ways to refresh your home for spring.

Springtime Activities

I love to sit down at the beginning of spring, flip through inspiring magazines, and find new DIY ideas and recipes to try. This excitement for the new season helps regain the joy of trying new things and beautifying the home, which sometimes fades a little during the long winter days.

Another lovely spring homemaking task is laundry dried outdoors. I love the smell of fresh & crips laundry that has been flapping in the cool spring breeze all day.

Spring also makes it a bit easier (and more enjoyable) to spend time outdoors. So, soak up the sunshine and enjoy the early spring breezes. A little stroll trough the garden or a cup of tea in the sunshine, are all lovely springtime activities.

Embracing a Spring Homemaking Mindset

Spring is such a lovely season. Try to soak up these lovely spring days. Enjoy new homemaking routines & projects.

Enjoy the simple things. Spring is about refreshing the home and looking forward to the season to come, not just for cleaning!

Don’t strive for perfection, but enjoy the moment, refreshing the home and welcoming the new season.

Save for later…
